What "export" means on IGExport

The word export usually suggests rows and columns: a list of usernames you can sort, filter and compare in a spreadsheet. That is a reasonable expectation, and it is worth correcting before you spend any time here. IGExport does not read follower counts, does not collect following lists and does not produce CSV, XLSX or JSON files of anyone's connections. There is no hidden setting that turns it on. If a list of accounts is what you need, this is the wrong page, and saying so up front saves you a wasted search.

What IGExport does export is the visual side of a public profile, the part that is hardest to keep. Stories vanish after a day, highlights can be edited or removed whenever the owner likes, and a profile picture only shows as a small circle in the app. Each of those comes back as a normal file you can keep: MP4 with audio for any clip, whether it came from the story tray or a highlight, JPG for stills, and one image for the avatar. If you need the lot in one go, IGExport zips it up for you.

The whole thing runs without an Instagram login. You type a username, IGExport fetches what the account shows publicly, and you decide what to keep. No sign-in means the export carries no trace of your own profile, and nobody on the other end is alerted. On the question of whether a creator is ever told that a story was saved, this guide to what creators are told lays out exactly what an owner gets to see.

Exporting an account in five steps

  1. Enter the username

Put the account name in the box above; the leading @ is optional. A profile link or a story link works too; IGExport keeps only the name.

  2. Open the account page

Up top sits the avatar, with the strip of highlight circles beneath it and every story still live on the account laid out in a grid below.

  3. Preview before exporting

Tap any tile to see it full size. Clips play with audio, letting you confirm it is the item you want before saving anything.

  4. Take a single item or everything

Save downloads a single item. Save all bundles the full story grid, or the whole highlight album you have open, into a single ZIP.

  5. Grab the profile picture

Use the button beside the avatar to save it as a standalone image, separate from the stories and highlights.

A full export of a busy account usually comes down to three actions: one Save all for the current stories, one Save all for each highlight album you care about, and one tap on the profile picture. Each highlight is exported on its own, so an account with several albums gives you several archives, which keeps a travel album from getting mixed up with a product album. Anyone mainly after highlights will find album-by-album saving explained at length on the highlights downloader page.

IGExport compared with screenshots and saving by hand

Screenshots and screen recordings are the fallback most people reach for, and they do technically cover highlights, since you can tap through an album and capture it. The trouble is what you end up with. What a screenshot captures is your display itself, status bar and app buttons included; a screen recording squeezes the clip again and records any notification banners or volume overlay that pop up. Capturing twenty highlight items that way means twenty separate files to crop, rename and sort later, and you need to be signed in to Instagram to view them in the first place.

Saving by hand inside the app is even more limited. Instagram lets you keep your own stories, but it offers no button to download another account's story or highlight to your gallery, and the profile picture only ever appears as a cropped circle. IGExport skips both problems by working with the files themselves rather than with what your screen happens to show, so each item arrives at the resolution it was uploaded and the set arrives in a single archive.

What ends up in the export

  • MP4Video stories and video highlight items, with audio
  • JPGPhoto stories, photo highlight items and the profile picture
  • ZIPOne archive per story list or per highlight album

Every file in an IGExport archive is the same one Instagram serves to the app. Whatever the creator layered on in the editor, from stickers and captions to drawings, is baked into that file, so your copy matches what followers saw. Instagram publishes photo stories with music as short clips, so expect those as MP4, not JPG. Interactive pieces such as poll results, question replies and link stickers live outside the file and are not carried over.

Your browser builds the ZIP itself, with no server in the middle, so no copy of the export is kept anywhere. Inside, files carry numbers matching their on-screen order, and highlight archives are named after their album, so repeat exports of one account stay easy to sort. Android drops the ZIP into Downloads; iPhone Safari saves it to the Files app, where tapping it expands a folder whose contents can go into Photos. The avatar can also be saved on its own through the profile picture downloader.

What IGExport will not export

Beyond follower and following lists, a few other things stay out of reach. Private profiles are off the table: IGExport sees only what a visitor without a login would see, and nothing gets around that. Close-friends stories are likewise limited to the people the owner picked. Once a story passes the one-day mark it leaves public view, unless it was pinned to a highlight, so an expired item is worth hunting for in the highlight row.

IGExport is also not a downloader for feed posts or reels shared by link. Give it a username and it exports exactly what that profile page carries: live stories, highlight albums and the avatar. Keeping the scope that narrow is deliberate, because it means the result page always shows the same three things in the same order, and an export of one account looks like an export of any other.

IGExport questions

Q

Can IGExport export a follower or following list?

No. IGExport does not collect or export lists of accounts in any format. Its exports are limited to media from a public account, namely stories, highlight albums and the avatar.

Q

Do I need to log in to Instagram to use IGExport?

No login is required at any point. You type a username and IGExport shows what that public account makes available to any visitor. Because you never sign in, the export is not linked to your own profile.

Q

Is the creator alerted when their stories get exported?

No alert goes out from IGExport, and because you browse without signing in, there is no username of yours for the story viewer list to show. The owner only sees viewers who watched while logged in to Instagram.

Q

What file formats does IGExport export?

Video items export as MP4 with their original audio, and photo items export as JPG. The profile picture is a single image file. When you use Save all, the selected set is packed into one ZIP archive.

Q

Can I export all highlights from an account in one archive?

Each highlight album is exported as its own ZIP, named after the album. For a complete set, open each album in turn and hit Save all inside it. This keeps separate albums cleanly apart.

Q

Is the exported quality the same as on Instagram?

Yes. IGExport saves the file Instagram serves rather than capturing your screen, so it keeps the uploaded resolution and sound. Nothing is cropped, re-encoded or overlaid with app buttons.

Q

Why does an account show no stories in IGExport?

Usually nothing new has gone up in the past day, or the account is set to private. Close-friends stories are also hidden from public view. Check the highlight row, since older stories may have been pinned there.

Q

Does IGExport cost anything?

No. There is no charge for saving stories, highlight albums or avatars, no sign-up, and no cap imposed by us. Large archives just take a little longer to build in your browser.
