Download Instagram Reels from stories and highlights
When a creator shares a reel to their story or keeps it in a highlight, you can save that clip as an MP4 with its audio. Enter their username, not the reel link, and nobody sees your name.

How to save a reel in four steps
1Find out who posted the reel
Open the reel in Instagram and note the handle shown above the caption. That name, not the link in your share sheet, is what the form needs. You can also paste a profile link such as
instagram.com/nameand the handle is picked out for you.2Enter the username and open the page
Type the handle into the box at the top of this page and submit. You land on the account's page, which shows a row of highlight circles, the stories posted in the last 24 hours, and the profile picture.
3Spot the reel in stories or a highlight
A reel that was reshared recently usually sits in the story list with a video badge. Older ones tend to live in a highlight album, often named something like Reels, Videos or a campaign title. Tap an item to watch it full size with sound before you keep it.
4Press Save, or Save all
Save under the preview downloads that one clip as an MP4. If the creator posted several reels in a row, or you want an entire album, Save all packs the list into a single ZIP built in your browser.
What you get when the reel lands on your device
A real MP4, not a screen recording
The download is the video file Instagram plays inside the story, so there is no status bar, no notification banner and no drop in sharpness from re-capturing your screen.
Highlights reach back further
Stories vanish after a day, but a highlight album stays on the profile until the creator removes it. That makes highlights the most reliable place to find an older reel.
The audio track comes along
Music, voiceover and original sound are part of the same MP4. Play it in any video app and you hear exactly what played on Instagram.
No account, no viewer entry
The lookup runs without signing in to Instagram, so your name never appears in the creator's story viewers and they get no alert when you save a clip.
Save all, numbered in order
One button downloads every item in the list or in the open album as a ZIP, with each file numbered in the order it appears on screen.
What a saved reel actually is
A reel on Instagram is a short vertical video, and the copy you save here is a plain MP4 file: H.264 video with the AAC audio track that carries the music or voiceover. It is shot and played in a 9:16 frame, the same tall shape as a phone screen, which is why it fills a phone in portrait but shows black bars on a laptop. Because the file is the one Instagram already serves to the app, nothing is re-encoded on the way to you; the resolution matches what the story was uploaded at, commonly 1080 × 1920 for footage exported from a phone. Text overlays, stickers and captions the creator burned into the video are part of the picture and stay there.
Reels only reach this page in one of two ways. The first is a share to story: the creator taps the share arrow under their own reel and adds it to their story, where it plays like any other story video for 24 hours. The second is a highlight, where a creator collects stories, including reshared reels, into a named album that stays on the profile. On the result page, stories appear as a grid of tiles and highlights as circles above it. Video items are marked so you can tell them apart from photos, and opening one plays it in a tall preview with sound so you can check it is the clip you were after. Keep in mind that the saved file is what the story plays, so if the creator trimmed the reel before sharing, or Instagram split a long clip into consecutive story segments, those segments arrive as separate MP4 files. For more on how story slots and albums differ, see the highlights saver.
If what you want is just the soundtrack, start with the MP4 from this page and pull the audio out on your own device; the reels audio guide walks through Shortcuts on iPhone, VLC and ffmpeg. For other story clips that aren't reels, the video saver covers the same flow. Whatever you keep, treat it as a personal copy: reposting someone's reel as your own, or using it in an ad, needs the creator's permission. SaveStories only works with public accounts, so reels from private profiles and close-friends stories stay out of reach by design.
$ SaveStories_{username}_01.mp4
Inside a Save all ZIP, each file takes the account name plus its position in the list, padded so they sort correctly: a set of 12 clips runs _01 to _12. Videos end in .mp4 and photos in .jpeg. The archive itself is called SaveStories_{username}_stories.zip for the story list, or carries the album title when you save a highlight. A single Save adds a short random tag in place of the number.
Reel questions, answered
QWhy doesn't pasting a reel link work?
A reel link only contains the post's ID, not the account it belongs to, and this site looks up accounts rather than individual posts. Enter the creator's username instead, then find the reel in their stories or highlights.
QCan I download any reel from a profile's Reels tab?
No. This tool reads stories and highlight albums only, so a reel is reachable only if the creator shared it to their story or saved it to a highlight. Reels that exist only on the Reels tab or in the feed aren't listed.
QWill the saved reel have sound?
Yes. The MP4 keeps the audio track that played on Instagram, whether that's licensed music, a voiceover or original sound. If a clip plays silently, check your device's mute switch or volume before anything else.
QCan I get the reel's audio as an MP3?
Not directly from this site. Save the MP4, then extract the sound on your device with iPhone Shortcuts, VLC, ffmpeg or a converter you trust. The reels audio page has step-by-step instructions.
QDoes the creator know I saved their reel?
No. The lookup doesn't use an Instagram account, so there is no entry in the story viewer list and no notification. Downloading the file happens in your own browser.
QThe reel I want isn't in the story list. What now?
Stories disappear 24 hours after posting, so a reel shared yesterday may already be gone from the list. Open the highlight circles above it; many creators keep their reels in an album. If it isn't in either place, the tool can't reach it.
QWhy does the video look tall with black bars on my computer?
Reels are made in a 9:16 vertical frame for phones. A computer screen is wider than it is tall, so players pad the sides. The file itself isn't cropped or stretched.
QIs it free, and do I need an app?
It's free with no daily limit, and it runs in any modern browser on iPhone, Android or desktop. There's nothing to install and no account to create.
